    The study of South Asia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison reaches as far back as the 1880s when William Holme Williams held a professorship of Sanskrit in the Department of Ancient Languages. Read article

  • REPORT ON THE 35th ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON SOUTH ASIA

    The 35th Annual Conference on South Asia was held October 20-22, 2006 , at the Madison Concourse Hotel in Madison , WI . Nearly 500 participants attended the conference from the continental US and Hawaii , Europe , and Asia . Presenters covered a broad range of disciplines ranging from archaeology, architecture, development, economics, film studies, history, literature, political science, and religious studies to exploring issues of diasporas, gender, globalization, labor, language, performance, text and violence. There were a total of 87 panels, 5 roundtables, and 5 films screening selected for presentation.
